Florence McCafferty Obituary

McCafferty, Florence L. BRUNSWICK Florence L. McCafferty, 96 of Brunswick, passed into eternal rest after a short illness on Monday evening, September 17, 2018, in her home surrounded by her family and close friends. Florence was born the youngest of nine children in Troy. Florence was the daughter of the late George Beehm and Anastasia (Rainey) Beehm. Florence was the wife of the late William C. McCafferty with whom she shared her life with for 67 years. She attended St. Peter's Grammar School and Catholic Central High School, graduating in 1939. She worked for St. Francis de Sales School in Troy for 19 years. She worked from 1947-1966 as a beloved kindergarten teacher. Florence said she "loved every single child who came into [her] life." Florence was an amazing woman who had many accomplishments. She was a leader of the Blue Birds and Campfire Girls; she was the chair lady for the Silver Tea at St. Francis School; she was a member of the Board of the Woman Club at St. Francis de Sales Church; and she was also the past president of the Women's Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #469. She had a love and passion for the Troy Senior Center where she was a dedicated volunteer for over 40 years. Florence was the recipient of the Senior Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010. She is survived by her two daughters, Florence (Reginald) Tedesco of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Sharon McCafferty of Brunswick; her granddaughters, Lisa (Rich) Cellucci and Tara (David) Mooradian both of Brunswick; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Gabriella Cellucci, Julia, David, and Ana Mooradian. She was predeceased by her siblings, Joseph (Evelyn) Beehm, Helen (Norman) Goyer, Catherine (Andrew) Maloney, Lillian (Arthur) McComber, Marion (John) Hancox, Evelyn (Orville) Gould, Raymond Beehm, and Anna Beehm. Florence dedicated her life to her family and friends. She was a devoted caregiver to her daughter Sharon, with whom she enjoyed shopping, dining out and they had a bond that was stronger than mother and daughter. Florence was always the life of the party, the first one to always step up to help someone in need. She was an avid reader, teacher, animal lover, supporter of many charities and friend to many. The family would like to express our deepest appreciation and most heartfelt gratitude for the many years of love, support and unwaving devotion and care given to Florence. We would like to take this special time to thank Lucia Peeney, Grace Miele, Patrice Martinez, Kalli Duncan, Rebekah Collins, Taylor Hernandez, Carmen Barreto, Lori Whiteash, Mallory Wood, Maria Kent, Michaila Kent and Jenna Root. We would also like to thank Florence's special friends with whom she loved like family, Linda Ferra, Kelly Flynn-Pasinalla, Joan Flynn and Julie Hulsebosch. Special thanks to Father Patterson, Local Community Hospice and Dr. Bowdy and her office staff. Florence was a devoted communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church. The funeral services for Florence will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, with a viewing hour starting at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Victory Church located at 55 North Lake Avenue, Troy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517 in Florence's memory.
